He fights his way through the Underworld again, aided by the ghost of Athena (who warns him that destroying Zeus will destroy all of Greece). Kratos doesn’t care. He battles through Hades’ domain, regains his magic and weapons, and reemerges to climb Olympus once more.
Athena appears, disgusted, revealing she wanted Kratos to take Zeus’s place as the new god of order. Kratos refuses, impales himself with the Blade of Olympus — releasing “Hope” to mankind — and finally, maybe, dies.
God of War 3 introduced "Titan-scale" battles, such as the opening fight against Poseidon on the back of the massive Titan Gaia, which the PS2 hardware could not have rendered.
