To understand the Virutham, one must understand the deity. Kamakshi is one of the three most important Shakti Peethas in South India (along with Madurai Meenakshi and Kashi Visalakshi). The name Kamakshi means "One who has desire in her eyes"—"Kama" (desire) + "Akshi" (eyes). This is a profound theological concept: unlike ascetic traditions that seek to destroy desire, Shaktism posits that Divine Desire ( Kama ) is the creative force behind the universe.
