Gasparilla Krewes 'link'
Established in 1927, this Krewe was formed by a group of civic-minded men to preserve the Latin heritage of Ybor City and Tampa. They are responsible for the Sant' Yago Illuminated Night Parade, a major evening event in the Gasparilla season. Their tradition involves elaborate, illuminated floats and a focus on the romance and chivalry of Spanish heritage.
The original and most recognizable Krewe. Founded in 1904, YMKG is the protagonist of the festival. Their members portray the pirates of José Gaspar’s mythical crew. They are responsible for the "Invasion"—arriving by ship on horseback and demanding the keys to the city. Membership is highly exclusive, often multi-generational, and composed of prominent Tampa men. They wear the iconic pirate garb: striped shirts, sashes, and bandanas. gasparilla krewes
