Orlando Pirates Football Club was founded in , originally as a youth club in the Orlando East township of Soweto, South Africa.
The club started life simply as “Orlando Boys Club” before evolving into Orlando Pirates. They became a professional team in the early 1970s and have since grown into one of South Africa’s most successful and widely supported football clubs, known for their distinctive black-and-white skull-and-crossbones emblem and passionate “Buccaneers” fan base.
While the club currently stands as a giant of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and a household name across the continent, its origins were humble, rooted in the passion of young footballers in the Orlando East township of Soweto, Johannesburg.
