Standard navigation software typically operates as a "walled garden." Users purchase a device or a software license (e.g., for a car head unit or a smartphone app), and updates are distributed solely by the manufacturer. These updates are often infrequent, costly, or cease entirely as hardware ages.

When viewing the image in the wallpaper preview, a special "Unlock" button appears on the screen. Pressing this executes a script that modifies the internal system permissions to allow navigation access. navipatch
