The Fridge Drain Hole — How To Clean
If you have noticed a puddle of water at the bottom of your refrigerator or soggy vegetables in the salad crisper, you likely have a clogged drain hole. This small opening is essential for directing condensation out of the unit and into an evaporation pan. When it gets blocked by food particles or slime, it can lead to bad smells, mold growth, and even reduced cooling efficiency.
As the blockage clears, the water will begin to flow freely. It is important to have towels or a shallow pan ready to catch the water that may flow out from the bottom of the fridge if the drain pan is removed for cleaning, or simply to mop up any overflow. To ensure the system is fully operational, one can test the flow by pouring a small cup of water into the drain trough; it should disappear immediately without pooling. how to clean the fridge drain hole
