The "Companion DVDSCR" serves a specific, legitimate purpose in Hollywood: getting the movie seen by the people who vote on awards. However, when these copies leak to the public, they offer a subpar version of the film that undercuts the artistic vision.
Because the official high-definition digital version leaked onto streaming networks almost instantly in February, actual DVDSCR versions became obsolete. Piracy groups preferred uploading direct digital rips (WebRips or WebDLs) rather than watermarked screeners.
