Soda For Cleaning Drains - Caustic

Warning: Do this slowly. The mixture will heat up rapidly and fume slightly. Stir gently with a wooden spoon as you add the crystals to ensure they dissolve.

Remove any standing water from the sink if possible. If the drain is completely backed up, do not proceed. Remove the sink strainer or plug.

When caustic soda is poured into a clogged drain, it reacts with the fatty acids in grease and grime, converting them into soap and glycerol. This reaction breaks down the blockage, allowing water to flow freely through the pipes again. The heat generated during the reaction also helps to dissolve and clear any remaining debris.
