Office politics meets the cartel. Key Episode: Nailed (S2, E9)
We meet Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) as a public defender sleeping in the back of a nail salon. He’s not Saul yet; he’s a hustler trying to go straight to earn the respect of his brilliant but mentally ill brother, Chuck.
However, the war with Chuck escalates. In Mike Ehrmantraut delivers a brutal beating to protect Jimmy’s interests, showing the violent consequences of Jimmy’s legal maneuvers. The tension culminates in "Chicanery," perhaps the show's finest hour. In a courtroom, Jimmy exposes Chuck’s mental illness to destroy his credibility. It is a legal victory, but a moral failure; Jimmy crosses a line he can never uncross, choosing ruthless manipulation over family loyalty. He wins the legal battle but loses his soul, setting the stage for his eventual moral collapse.
