Shumbha Nishumbha Story -

Shumbha sends the demon Sugriva to the Goddess with a marriage proposal. She calmly replies, "I am not a woman who will marry anyone who merely asks. I have a vow: whoever defeats me in battle and proves stronger than my pride will be my husband. Let Shumbha come and fight." Shumbha sends a messenger named Durdha with an army. The Goddess easily destroys them with a mere "Om" sound.

They seized the three worlds, drove Indra and the other Devas out of Swargalok (heaven), and usurped the powers of natural forces like the sun and wind. Nishumbha attacked the Goddess with his weapon. The Goddess pierced him with her trident (trishula). As he fell, another manifestation of Nishumbha emerged, but the Goddess decapitated him, ending his life.
