The movie is set in the coal-mining town of Wasseypur in Uttar Pradesh, India. The story revolves around the rise of a gangster, Sultan Mirza (Manoj Bajpayei), and his son, Shoaib (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), as they try to establish their dominance in the town's underworld.
