The codec, developed by Cisco and released as open-source software, is used for real-time video encoding (e.g., WebRTC). It reduces file size by discarding “perceptually irrelevant” information. This paper proposes that the episode’s editing, flashback structure, and emotional beats function as a human-scale codec: some moments are preserved (I-frames), others predicted (P-frames), and some lost entirely (dropped frames).
