There was never a Service Pack 3. By the time a third pack would have been due, Microsoft was already deep into the development and launch of (released late 2009), which was widely regarded as "what Vista should have been."

Windows Vista, however, was released to manufacturing in 2006 and launched to the public in early 2007. Due to its notoriously rocky start (driver issues, User Account Control complaints, and hardware requirements), its lifecycle was significantly shorter than XP's.

Without official patches, Vista is highly vulnerable to modern malware and viruses. Most modern web browsers (Chrome, Firefox) and antivirus programs no longer support it.
