⚠️ Important Warnings (Read Before Proceeding)
DATA LOSS: Unlocking the bootloader triggers a factory reset . All data on your phone (photos, contacts, messages, apps) will be permanently deleted. Back up your data first. WARRANTY VOID: This process will trip the "Knox" counter. This voids your warranty permanently. Samsung Pay, Secure Folder, and Samsung Pass will stop working forever. SAFETY: Follow the steps exactly. Mistakes can result in a bricked device. BANKING APPS: Some banking apps may detect an unlocked bootloader and refuse to run.
Prerequisites
A Samsung Galaxy Smartphone (Snapdragon US models like AT&T/T-Mobile/Verizon are often not unlockable ; Exynos and Global models usually are). A Windows PC (Mac/Linux methods exist but Windows is standard for Odin). A USB Data Cable. Drivers: Install Samsung USB Drivers on your PC. Odin Tool: Download the latest version of the Odin flashing tool (usually found on reputable Android development forums like XDA Developers).
Step 1: Enable Developer Options & OEM Unlocking
Go to Settings > About phone > Software information . Tap on Build number 7 times rapidly until you see "Developer mode has been turned on." Go back to the main Settings menu. At the very bottom, tap on Developer options . Scroll down and find OEM unlocking . Toggle it to ON .
Note: If the toggle is missing or greyed out, your specific carrier/model does not support unlocking.
Step 2: Boot into Download Mode
Turn off your Samsung device completely. Connect your USB cable to your PC only (do not connect the phone yet). Press and hold the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons simultaneously. While holding both buttons, insert the USB cable into your phone. Keep holding until you see a teal/blue screen (Warning screen). Release the buttons. On the screen, it will ask to continue or cancel. Press the Volume Up button to continue to "Download Mode".
Step 3: Unlock the Bootloader
Once in Download Mode, look at the screen text. You should see an option that says "Unlock Bootloader" or a long warning text. Press and hold the Volume Up button for about 3-5 seconds to select "Unlock Bootloader" / "Device Unlock Mode". The device will show a confirmation screen warning about data loss. Press Volume Up again to confirm Yes .
The phone will automatically reboot and perform a factory reset.
