The Camera Obscura laid the groundwork for the development of photography. The 19th century saw significant advancements in technology, leading to the creation of the first photographic cameras. Joseph Nicéphore Niépce's successful attempt to capture a photograph using a pewter plate in 1826 marked the beginning of photography. The modern camera evolved from the Camera Obscura by incorporating light-sensitive materials and eventually digital sensors.
