Volume Licensing Keys are intended for large corporations that need to activate hundreds or thousands of machines simultaneously. When a user finds a "free" key online, it is almost invariably a corporate volume key that has been leaked or stolen. While these keys often work initially, they come with a ticking clock. These keys rely on a corporate activation server (KMS). If the user is not connected to that specific corporate network, the key eventually falls into a "non-genuine" status.
